Biography

Reza Abiri, Ph.D. joined the department of electrical, computer, and biomedical engineering at the University of Rhode Island as an assistant professor in Summer 2021. Before that, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, and University of California, Berkeley. He completed his Ph.D. in 2017 in mechanical engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, focusing on controls and systems. Dr. Abiri received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from K.N. Toosi University of Technology and Amirkabir University of Technology (Tehran Polytechnic) in Tehran, Iran, in 2009 and 2011.

His main research interests are in the areas of human-robot interaction, brain-machine interfaces, artificial intelligence, rehabilitation, robotic controls, and smart materials.
